Birth – A play with testimonies about childbirth in America
Saturday, July 23 at 8:00 pm
DONA is offering a reading of the new play: Birth. Karen Brody, a DC-based playwright and doula, has written a 90-minute play with testimonies about childbirth in America. Based on over one hundred interviews Ms. Brody conducted with mothers across America in the winter/spring of 2004, Birth tells the birth stories of seven women, offering a range of perspectives on how educated, middle-class women give birth. Moving between first-person monologues, some dialogue, and the voices these women heard on the day they gave birth, the seven stories paint a picture of how middle-class, educated women give birth in America today.
Birth is dedicated to the playwright's mother, Annette Brody, and was written in memory of Ms. Brody’s friend Mary Kroeger, midwife, author, and a keynote speaker at the 2004 DONA International Conference, who passed away in December 2004. A discussion with the playwright will follow the show. For more information about the play go to www.birththeplay.com.
TICKETS Purchase your ticket(s) on the Conference Registration Form or through the Doula Boutique. You may order as many tickets as you wish, but don't delay as seating is limited.
